For home brewers, it can be a disappointment when you fail at making a fresh pot of coffee. Either burnt, bitter, or watered down and wasted pot of coffee can really ruin your day. I know I’ve done it a few times- either forgot the french press was sitting on the counter for over 20 mins, used old beans, or didn’t heat the water well enough. There are plenty of factors that can hurt the brew. However, there are also a few tips- or tricks depending on how you view it- that can help insure that your coffee will come out tasting spectacular.
Last week I took a trip to Chicago to visit family, friends, and, of course, cafes. I’ve been around to most of the cafes in Chicago or, at the very least, have tried coffee from every roaster in the area. When I returned this time, I planned to visit a few of my favorite locations as well as ones that I missed on previous trips. After a long tour of numerous cafes, I came to the conclusion of five cafes I think anyone who visits Chicago this Spring and Summer should definitely visit. Of course, all of them I’ve raved about before- but after trying some new roasts, spending more time in the cafes and reevaluating my time there, I’ve decided these are still some of my favorites.
